You will need to have online bookings enabled if you're going to give patients the option to pay up front for their telehealth appointments. There is no additional charge for online bookings. Head over here to learn how to get them set up!

If you're offering telehealth appointments through your online bookings page, one thing that might come in handy is giving your patients the ability to pay for their appointment at the time of booking. This way, they can get payment out of the way up front, and you don't have to worry about creating any invoices after their booking (as this is taken care of automatically!).

To get started, your Cliniko account will need to be online payments-enabled. This guide will walk you through the steps of getting that set up (and one thing to note is that you'll need to have an account with Stripe, who is the payment processor we use for online payments).

Once that's done, you're going to want to set up your telehealth appointments so that they're available online. While this guide gives you the detailed steps, we'll give you a quick overview right here!

🚨 If the patient has paid for their online booking in advance, they cannot cancel their own appointment using the cancellation link.

First, display telehealth appointment types in online bookings

To do this, you'll need to ensure that the appointment type(s) are available online. If you go into the appointment type settings, you'll want to tick the box under Show in online bookings:

Next, link your telehealth billable items to the appointment type

After you've created telehealth billable items, head into your appointment types' settings and select the appropriate item(s) under Related billable items:

Ensure that you have online payments enabled

Make sure that you've integrated with Stripe and enabled the relevant appointment types to take online payments! We have an overview of how to get that set up here.

The final product

When all is said and done, your patients will see something like this when they land on your online bookings page:

Before confirming the booking, they'll have to input their payment details:

When they do that, though, it's all set—your patients will have booked and paid. The only thing remaining is to actually have the telehealth appointment!
