Add Cliniko shortcut to desktop

Adding a shortcut to Cliniko on your desktop can significantly enhance your workflow and accessibility of your account. With Cliniko just a simple tap or click away, you can bypass the hassle of navigating through multiple accounts, tabs, or bookmarks in your web browser. This will save you valuable time, especially during busy periods in your practice!

You won’t have to search and find your login page each time, you’ll be able to add a shortcut to your unique login page for your Cliniko accounts.

In this guide we’ll walk you through adding Cliniko as a shortcut to your Windows or Mac desktop.

Keep in mind you can also add a shortcut to your mobile device.


Add Cliniko shortcut to Mac

To add a desktop shortcut on your Mac, open your preferred browser on your device and head to your Cliniko login page. This is a unique URL that was assigned to your business when you signed up. If you don't know what your clinic's login page is, here's how you can find that out.

Shortcut via drag and drop (Mac)

  1. Within your preferred browser, navigate to your unique login page for your Cliniko account.

  2. Select the entire URL in the address bar at the top of the browser.

  3. Click and drag the address onto the Mac OS desktop and release the mouse button.

  4. A shortcut pointing to your Cliniko account will now be added on the desktop.

  5. Edit the shortcut name.

  6. Repeat the process to create as many Cliniko shortcuts as you need.

By default, the shortcut when you drag and drop the URL will look like a webpage icon but you can customise the icons for files on Mac without issue.

Create shortcut via browser (Mac)

Depending on your operating system and browser version the method to add a shortcut to your Mac may change slightly.

Safari

  1. In Safari, navigate to your unique login page for your Cliniko account that you want to add to the dock and as a web app.

  2. From Safari's menu bar, choose File → Add to Dock.


    Or click the Share button (indicated by a box with an arrow pointing up) in the Safari toolbar, then choose Add to Dock.

  3. Update the name for the shortcut that you want to use, then click Add.

Your Cliniko web app is now saved to the Applications folder of your home folder, and you can open it from your Mac's Dock, Launchpad, or even Spotlight.

Chrome

  1. Open Chrome, and navigate to your unique login page for your Cliniko account that you want to create the shortcut for.

  2. Resize your Chrome window so you can see both your computer's desktop and the Chrome window on the same screen.

  3. Click and drag the address onto the Mac OS desktop and release the mouse button.

  4. A shortcut pointing to your Cliniko account will now be added on the desktop.

  5. Edit the shortcut name (if needed).

  6. Repeat the process to create as many Cliniko shortcuts as you need.

By default, the shortcut when you drag and drop the URL from Chrome will look like a webpage icon but you can customise the icons for files on Mac to your preference.

Firefox

  1. Open Firefox, and navigate to your unique login page for your Cliniko account that you want to create the shortcut for.

  2. Resize your Firefox window so you can see both your computer's desktop and the Firefox window on the same screen.

  3. Click the padlock icon on the left of the address bar (where your Cliniko URL is shown).

  4. While still holding the mouse button down, move the pointer to the desktop, then release the mouse button. The shortcut will be created.

You can also drag and drop items to your desktop from Firefox's Bookmarks menu to quickly create shortcuts. Keep in mind, by default, the shortcut when you drag and drop the URL from Firefox will look like a webpage icon but you can customise the icons for files on Mac to your preference.


Add Cliniko shortcut to Windows

To add a desktop shortcut on your Windows device, open your browser and head into your Cliniko login page. This is a unique URL that was assigned to your business when you signed up.

If you don't know what your clinic's login page is, here's how you can find that out.

Shortcut via drag and drop (Windows)

  1. Open your preferred web browser and navigate to your unique login page for your Cliniko account, minimise (Windowed mode) your web browser window, so that you can see both the web browser and desktop.

  2. Go to the address bar of your web browser.

  3. Drag the lock icon or logo icon which is present before (HTTPS) to the desktop.

Note: Your website shortcut will only open in the browser that you used to create it.

Create shortcut via desktop (Windows)

  1. After you open your unique login page for your Cliniko account in your preferred browser, right-click on the URL located in the address bar of your web browser and select Copy:

  2. Minimise your web browser window and navigate to your Desktop.

  3. Right-click on the Desktop, select New and choose Shortcut:

  4. Within the location field, right-click and choose Paste to copy the URL/web address of your Cliniko account into the location bar:


  5. Once you add your Cliniko URL, click on Next.

  6. Type a name for the shortcut (i.e. "Cliniko" or the name of your business if you have multiple accounts), then click Finish:

  7. Repeat the process for any additional Cliniko accounts you want to create shortcuts for.

Create shortcut via browser (Windows)

Depending on your browser version the method to add a shortcut to your Windows desktop may change slightly.

Note: Regardless of which browser you use to create your Cliniko shortcut, it will only open in your default browser. You can however change your default browser in your Windows settings.

Edge (Windows)

While you can drag and drop the URL from Edge to create a shortcut, Edge also allows you to install Cliniko as a site app! Once installed, it will open Cliniko its own focused window, and you can pin it to your taskbar for quick access.

  1. In Edge, navigate to your unique login page for your Cliniko account that you want to add to the dock and as a web app.

  2. Click the 3 vertical dots in the top right of the browser to open the Edge menu toolbar. From there, navigate to Apps then you will see an option to install site as an app:

  3. You'll then see a prompt to enter in a name for the site app:

    Site pop-up that displays: This site can be installed as an application. It will open in its own focused window, and you can pin it to your taskbar for quick access.

  4. Once the app is installed you'll have the option to Create Desktop shortcut. Make sure that's checked then click Allow:

  5. You'll now see a dedicated web app for your Cliniko account on your Desktop:

  6. Repeat this process for any additional Cliniko accounts you'd like to create shortcuts for.

Keep in mind, by default, the shortcut when you drag and drop the URL from Edge may not have the Cliniko icon but you can customise the icons for webpage shortcuts on Windows to your preference.

Chrome (Windows)

  1. Open Chrome, and navigate to your unique login page for your Cliniko account that you want to create the shortcut for.

  2. Resize your Chrome window so you can see both your computer's desktop and the Chrome window on the same screen.

  3. Click and drag the address onto the Windows desktop and release the mouse button.

  4. A shortcut pointing to your Cliniko account will now be added on the desktop.

  5. Edit the shortcut name (if needed)

  6. Repeat the process to create as many Cliniko shortcuts as you need.

Firefox (Windows)

  1. Open Firefox, and navigate to your unique login page for your Cliniko account that you want to create the shortcut for.

  2. Resize your Firefox window so you can see both your computer's desktop and the Firefox window on the same screen.

  3. Drag and drop by clicking the padlock icon on the left of the address bar (where your Cliniko URL is shown). While still holding the mouse button down, move the pointer to the desktop, then release the mouse button. The shortcut will now be created 🎉!

  4. Repeat this process to create as many Cliniko shortcuts as needed.
