From 1 November 2026, some parts of Canada are no longer changing their clocks, so you may need to choose a new time zone so your calendar stays accurate.
What's changing
Several Canadian regions are moving to a permanent time, and Cliniko has added new time zone options to match. Most of western and central Canada is affected, including British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, and parts of northwestern Ontario.
Saskatchewan, Yukon, and north-western British Columbia already stay on the same time all year, so nothing changes there. Nunavut isn't changing either, and continues to change its clocks.
If you're not sure whether your area is affected, check with your provincial or territorial government before you make any changes.
What you'll need to do
If your account or one of your business locations is in an affected area, you'll need to switch to a new Canadian time zone within Cliniko. Once you do that, Cliniko will automatically adjust your appointments so they stay at the same local time. For example, an appointment at 11 am on 2 November will still be at 11 am after this change.
Current time zone in Cliniko | New time zone to choose |
Pacific Time (US & Canada) | Pacific Time (Canada) |
Mountain Time (US & Canada) | Alberta |
Central Time (US & Canada) | Manitoba |
If you don't choose a new time zone, you may notice that your appointments from 1 November are out by an hour.
You will see this warning when you're about to take an action that triggers the adjustment:
The adjustment runs in the background. We expect it to take just a few minutes, but it can take up to a few hours, depending on how many future appointments your account has. We'll email you when it's finished.
While it's running, you may see appointments move on your calendar, and the gaps between them can shift. This could lead to an accidental double booking.
We recommend switching your time zone at the end of the day or outside business hours.
Avoid creating or moving appointments that occur from 1 November - 30 March until the adjustment is complete.
If your account is not in an affected area, and none of your business locations are, but you have patients that might be, please see our guide about updating patient time zones instead. This will be the only step that applies to you.
Check which settings apply to your account
If your account is in an affected area, or your business location(s), what you need to update depends on whether you've turned on multiple time zones.
Go to Settings → Our clinic → General settings and look under Multiple time zones. If Advanced support for multiple time zones is ticked, each business and user has their own time zone. If it's unticked, your account time zone is what dictates your user and business time zones.
Here's a table to determine which settings you need to check and potentially update depending on whether or not you have multiple time zones enabled:
| Advanced support for multiple time zones is unticked | Advanced support for multiple time zones is ticked |

1. Update your account time zone
Go to Settings → Our clinic → General settings.
Select the new time zone in the time zone field.
Select Save settings at the bottom of the page.
If you do not have multiple time zones enabled for your account:
You will see a warning which you should read in full before continuing.
Your businesses and users will update along with your account when you save your changes.
This action is what will trigger your appointments to shift.
We will email you when the adjustment has been completed.
If you have multiple time zones enabled, you won't see a warning, and changing your Cliniko account time zone will not be the action that triggers your appointments to shift on the calendar. Step 3: Update a business time zone will trigger the adjustment instead.
2. Update a patient's time zone
Patients have their own time zone which you'll need to update separately. Here's our guide on how to update the time zones for your patients individually or en masse.
3. Update a business time zone
If you have advanced support for multiple time zones turned on, repeat these steps for each business in an affected area:
Go to Settings → Our clinic → Business Information.
Select Edit information under the business you want to update.
Below the business address, open the Time zone field and select the new time zone. A warning about your appointments appears.
Read the warning, then select Save business.
On accounts with multiple time zones enabled, this change is what triggers the affected appointments to be shifted in your Cliniko calendar. We will send you an email once the adjustment is complete.
4. Update a user's time zone
If you have advanced support for multiple time zones turned on, each affected user's time zone needs updating separately. As an administrator, you can update the time zone for any user.
Go to Settings → Our clinic → Users & Practitioners and select the user to open their profile settings.
In General information, select the new time zone.
Save your changes.
