Discounts can be a powerful tool for your practice, whether you’re offering promotional rates or loyalty rewards for your products and services.

Cliniko allows you to apply discounts in two ways:

Apply discounts directly on invoices

When creating an invoice, you can apply discounts to individual invoice items. To get started, add a billable item or a product when creating an invoice:

You'll notice a discount field within each item line. You can toggle between a percentage (e.g. 10% off) or a fixed dollar value (e.g. $15 off):

You can apply a discount for every billable item or product you add to the invoice. The total discount applied on the invoice is shown at the bottom right:

Remember to hit create invoice when you're done.

Direct invoice discounts are great for when your discounts vary depending on the situation.

Automate discounts with related billable items and products

If you regularly apply the same discounts for certain services and items you sell, linking discounted billable items and products to appointment types can save time.

First thing's first, make sure you have billable items related to your appointment types. Doing this means when you raise an invoice for a particular appointment, all the associated billable items (and products) will appear automatically on that invoice.

Within a particular appointment type settings (Settings → Appointments → Appointment Types), you'll see the related billable items. Similar to discounts on invoices, you can select a percentage or a fixed dollar value:

Any discounts applied to the billable item will also be applied automatically to any concession pricing you may have set-up.

The discount amount cannot exceed your concession pricing otherwise you'll see the error, "Fixed discount is not valid. Check the price of this billable item and try again":

Fixed discount is not valid. Check the price of this billable item and try again

The same rules apply to linked products you want to discount:

Don't forget to hit update appointment type when you're done!

Discounting in Cliniko is flexible and designed to suit both occasional and regular use cases. Applying direct discounts on invoices offers flexibility and is best for one-off adjustments. Automating discounts ensures consistency and saves time, especially for practices offering packages or repeat services.
