Export all of a patient's information

Export every single piece of information that has ever been entered about a patient.

Written by Emily

If a patient requests a copy of all their information, you're able to download this from their details page.

The exported file includes all data on record for the patient, including any archived items. See Archived data in exports below for details.

This function is only available to administrators.

Download all of a patient's information

Select the patient in question, and scroll down to the bottom of their details. You'll see an option to generate an export under Export patient information:

Click Generate export, and you'll see a message that a copy of stored information is being exported:

To access this export, head into the patient's Files, and you'll see the export (it will be a .zip file, and have a really long name):

To download the file, click the really long name. This will download a .zip file to your computer, and you can open it up. It will look different depending on what type of computer you're using, but here's an example of what that file looks like on a Mac:

With the exception of what's in the "files" folder, all data will be in HTML format. HTML is "portable" data, and if a patient requests a copy of their data for any reason, "portability" is required. This is why you'll see those HTML files!

This means the patient can open any file on their computer and navigate through their records in a web browser but only they can view it, as it's stored locally on their device.

To get started, you can click on the index.html file which will open up a page on your browser:

You'll see tabs that you can toggle through depending on what types of data you want to see:

Archived data in exports

The downloaded file includes all data for the patient, including any archived records. When you toggle through the different headers, you may come across the Archived column that indicates which items have been archived:

Opening an individual item will also show a timestamp for when it was archived:

There's currently no way to exclude archived records from the export. If you're sharing this file with a patient or third party, be aware that it will include any archived items.
